Ego Fortification, Dreams II

The placebo effect operates thru the subconscious. If you sincerely believe a sugar pill will make you well, it will - except if you know it is a sugar pill. Even when double blind tests with some receiving placebos and some the genuine medication are done, placebos have a high success rate, and even some of the results obtained by the medication could be ascribed to the placebo effect.

Dreams are then one of the ways our subconscious tries to communicate with us, and express its concerns. Unfortunately we usually don't remember our dreams, but apparently they do have an effect even if we don't remember. Even if we are only vaguely conscious of some problem and a need to change.

Unfortunately, even if we remember and correctly interpret our dreams, it may be difficult to act on them. The solution is not always as simple as storing up grain during the fat years for use during the lean years. Psychological problems can be very intractable, and defy treatment, although there are ways available now for treating such deep-rooted conditions.

Your dreams at night can presage problems or be precognitive, or may just be a way of integrating the events of that day. Unfortunately, we mostly only recognize precognitive dreams after the incident has occurred, although there are those who do try to act on them. My wife frequently has dreams of unspecified problems which seem to show she is an anxious sort of person and tends to awfulize things.

The situation is different with our daydreams: they may express our aspirations or a physical need, such as daydreaming about a relaxing fishing trip may indicate that you are becoming over-stressed and need to rest. This is a form of meditation in a way, and a relaxing daydream can have a physically relaxing effect. Don't you feel better when you've had such a daydream?
